The Lumination Spotlight will provide an inside look at how schools nationwide are revolutionising education with our immersive technology, educational programs, and experiences in Lumination Learning Labs.

These innovative spaces empower students to interact with state-of-the-art tools, fostering creativity and cultivating essential skills for the future. From venturing into virtual worlds to engaging in hands-on problem-solving, the opportunities are limitless.

This edition of Lumination Spotlight sees students across Australia are delving into Aboriginal landmarks, designing smart cities, and leveraging cutting-edge technology to address real-world challenges. Here are the latest highlights from our schools:

Beacon Program Shines in Horsham, Victoria

Horsham’s Beacon Holiday Program wrapped up with 10 enthusiastic Year 4-6 students embarking on a four-day immersive adventure at The Station – Horsham. Led by Sara White and Shai Coggins from Lumination, this program, sponsored by Lumination and BAE Systems Australia, focused on addressing global sustainability challenges through emerging technologies.

Throughout the week, students explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and deepened their understanding of climate change using handheld VR experiences. They also crafted personalised Merge Cubes, representing their unique identities. Working in teams, they designed group crests centred on sustainability themes and began planning their very own Smart City, showcasing innovative solutions to modern environmental issues.

Parents and educators were thrilled to see the students’ creativity and ingenuity, especially as they used technologies like VR, AI, coding, and 3D modelling to gain vital STEM skills for the future. This experience not only fostered their technical abilities but also prepared them for the careers of tomorrow.

Exploring Aboriginal Landmarks in Port Lincoln

Port Lincoln High School students are on an exciting journey to capture the essence of their local heritage through their latest XR project. Equipped with 360° cameras, the students are documenting significant Aboriginal landmarks around Port Lincoln, transforming them into immersive tourist points for the local community and visitors.

Utilising ThingLink to create interactive experiences, the students are guided by Emma, a local Aboriginal cultural advocate, whose knowledge and passion are shaping this powerful project. By connecting with the land and its rich history, the students are not only learning new skills in immersive technology but also fostering a deeper appreciation for Aboriginal culture and storytelling.

2024 Lumination League has begun!

A huge congratulations to everyone who participated in Challenge #1 of the Lumination League! This exciting competition encourages students to showcase their skills across subjects like Science, Languages, HPE, and the Arts using immersive technology in their Lumination Lab.

Your creativity and enthusiasm truly impressed us. From bold and imaginative designs to thoughtful integration of literary themes, it was clear that every team brought their A-game. The competition was fierce, and choosing a winner was no easy task with so many outstanding entries.

However, after much deliberation, one team stood out from the rest. We are thrilled to announce that the winners of this challenge are… SJC Red from St Joseph College, Geelong!

SJC Red wowed us with their attention to detail, ensuring that they not only incorporated an important object from their chosen book, The Treehouse Series, but also cleverly included a significant quote, bringing the world of the book to life in virtual reality. Their creativity and understanding of the text shone through in every aspect of their project.

A massive congratulations to the winning team! And of course, a huge round of applause to every single participant—your hard work and incredible creations made this challenge truly special. We can’t wait to see what you come up with next! Keep up the fantastic work!
